You know what it's like when you find a really good author, read voraciously and then realise you've read them all?
For me, it's Khaled Hosseini (author of The Kiterunner, and A thousand splendid suns) and Vikas Swarup (who wrote Q&A, and The Six Suspects). Hossieni's books were published in 2004 and 2007 and I've been kept waiting ever since for novel number 3. It's agony!! Swarup published his two novels in 2005 and 2008 and again...it's nearing a 4 year wait for the next title to be written. It's hard to read voraciously when your favourite authors have only written 2 novels but I do my best.
What does one do? Give up reading entirely until a new novel is released?
No, you head around to the Fiction and Literature Zone and ask the Roving Librarian for some help finding another author who will write the style of book you enjoy - set in the same country, during the same era or covering similar themes.
We have a number of magic tools at our disposal that can help fill the gap until Hosseini and Swarup put pen to paper and public another novel.
Who else writes like? is a readers' guide to fiction authors and suggests a dozen authors to consider - only 2 that I've heard of, Niccolo Ammaniti and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. It doesn't list Vikas Swarup.
Now read this III is another book that recommends fiction and is written by a very well-known Seattle librarian called Nancy Pearl, author of the Book Lust reading recommendation titles. In fact, she is the only librarian with her very own action figure (one of which I own).
